What is Orion Wing?
Orion Wing is a mod for Half-Life 2 focused mainly around 6 Degrees of Freedom (6DoF) combat.
What is 6 Degrees of Freedom (6DoF)?
6 Degrees of Freedom is the ability to move on any axis or any combination of axes. (i.e. up and forward, back, down, and left etc.)
How will that work? Will I have to learn more controls?
A couple more, the general W,A,S,D format will work much the same. (Forward, Back, Slide Left and Slide Right respectively) but keys will need to be bound for rotation left and right (Q and E currently) and elevation (Slide Up and Slide Down). The mouse will also operate in a full 360 degree range.
Generally you will be able to pilot the ship using the W,A,S,D and the mouse, but for more complicated manuevers you will want to incorporate elevation changes and rolls.
What about guns? Will they feel familiar?
Orion Wing utilizes two seperate "banks" of weapons, Primary and Secondary. Primary are any of your projectile weapons, including lasers. These constitute one bank and all utilize the same firing key. Secondary weapons are your missiles and other rocket-propelled weapons. They utilize a seperate firing key. You can only fire one Primary weapon and one Secondary weapon at a time, but both Primary and Secondary can be fired at the same time.
FPS veterans will find many similarities between the weapons they are used to and the weapons of Orion Wing. Check the "Weapons" section of the site for more information.
