smashmyps3.com/TORONTO -- Ben Lovatt and Victor Moukhortov waited in line for two days to buy a new PlayStation 3 only to take it to Dundas Square and smash it to bits with a sledgehammer. "I did it for the thrill and to see people's expression," Moukhortov, a 17-year-old part-time student, said yesterday after the public smashing of the PS3 he bought from the downtown Best Buy. "It was like a social experiment to see people's reaction. It held up pretty well. It took about 15 hits to break it." The pair both bought a new PS3 -- one 20-gigabyte unit worth $550 and a 60-gigabyte unit worth $650. NO WARRANTY The less expensive 20-gigabyte unit was the one destroyed. "We are going to sell the 60-gigabyte one at a profit to cover the cost of the wrecked one," said Lovatt, adding the pair didn't buy an extended warranty on the unit. "Some people say we are anti-consumer, but we sure generate a lot of statements." The downtown Best Buy had 100 PS3 units for sale yesterday. It's too bad someone would destroy a new PS3 when there are so many people -- like sick children in hospitals -- that would love a chance to play the new system, said Andrew Burt, a Best Buy manager who witnessed the unit being destroyed. A small crowd watched the PlayStation 3 being destroyed and most were not impressed. "What losers. Idiots. What a waste of money. I understand buying it to play it but not to smash it to pieces," said Alexander Moretto, an 18-year-old Ryerson University student. SIMILAR STUNT Lovatt and Moukhortov say they will perform a similar stunt tomorrow when Nintendo's Wii goes on sale. The pair have a website where they ask for donations so they can destroy new products in public.

I still have the most fun with my NES and Sega, never really got into Sega CD... The hype surrounding the Wii has definitely gotten to me and the prospect of playing all my original NES games while in Ann Arbor really appeals to me. Of course I'd also like to take a shot at Twilight Princess, Excite Truck, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Brothers.

I need to either get some controllers for a NES emulator on the computer or some tvs for the orriginal consoles... The only problem with the vintage games is we're limited in th number of screens and therefore participants. I know if I ever find a Wii, it will also be making an appearance.

well I have just as many TV's as I do Computer monitors so thats not a problem and as for players you usually can swing 2-4 players per system per game so 2 systems and 2 Tv's can hold 4-8 people and considiring the last lan only had 6 people anyway I don't think that Tv's will be the issue. LOL
