Iger points out that the format war is something that doesn’t apply to all consumer markets. For example, Blu-ray Disc holds an overwhelming command in Japan. “If you look across the globe, the only place there is really a format war is in the United States,” said Iger “In other markets where next-gen DVD is starting to penetrate, Blu-ray is winning, and substantially; so much so there isn’t even a perceived format war.” www.dailytech.com/Disney+CEO+Speaks+on+Bluray+Exclusive+Support/article7264.htmIdk...if Disney backs blu-ray, then I can almost gaurantee they would win...but who knows...the interesting thing would be having all the Disney classic movies on one disc...like a Box set, but on 1 disc...I'm sure they're thinking about it.

Iger is an idiot... 1. In the US HD-DVD is still in the lead by a large margin if you do not count the PS3 (which most are not using for blu-ray) 2. In Europe HD-DVD is winning by an even larger margin....I mean Sony themselves even release movies on HD-DVD there! 3. I have said it before I will say it again! Walmart Walmart Walmart! They have said they are not sure if they will even carry blu-ray movies, they are 110% behind HD-DVD and will be pushing it hard in their stores, on tv, and in print. They even lined up a cheap manufacturer in China to make the HD-DVD players for $150-$200 which proved to be the sweet spot where DVD took off....Walmart with their operations in the US, UK, Canada, and China may have already decided the format war....I think some recent numbers showed they move more DVD's than the next 2 retailers combined... It did not seem possible but if you think about it with Walmart does in fact move more DVD's than anyone and if they refuse to support a format they pretty much kill it straight out of the gate.. 4. In Japan uptake has been slow on either format and the HD market there is pretty much non-existent at the moment so any statement about blu-ray OR HD-DVD winning in Japan is ridiculous...

Ya, blue-ray just seems to be winning all over the board lately...as far as sales on Blue-ray movies go it's taken HD-DVD out, and since the anouncement of Blockbuster not carrying HD-DVD movies, a lot of business have seen a huge decline in HD-DVD players and even an increase in returns on HD-DVD players....
Wonder what it's going to be like in another 6 months...

well i for one am looking forward to getting a PS3 so that all my gaming and video needs are set. ALSO I personally wont buy DVDs or Music at walmart Due to the fact that they edit even the unedited music and they edit R rated movies. so i wont ever buy movies there. And i am not alone on that stand point alot of people do not buy movies at Walmart for the same reason. So Walmart backing HD DVD will do nothing as long as they keep on there path of editing movies an music them selves. just my 2 cents

Exactly...and why would you go there to buy a movie? When i say poor I mean the people living on welfare and they have to decide between a dvd and a cheap bottle of vodka....lol. People like us either A. Download and burn the movie illegally, B. Rent the movie, copy it, and return it, or C. Buy it from Best Buy with the Best Buy bucks you got from buying something else really big. and then there's that all famous(sp?) hidden answer D. You got it as a present from someone.
