I think it is something we are gonna have to accept....there wont be internet unless we pay out the ass for a hotel conference room or actual gaming center.....

well, and it will only be temporary. As soon as comcast runs an extra block to my parents house we'll have it there. And Im in the middle of designing our office downstairs...which should have LAN support for up to 20 people with out any extra tables and stuff. So, with that said....LOKER get comcast to run it!!! any info you need ill supply. Anyway you can talk to one of your comcast "buddies" and find out how much it actually costs? or get them to put in to run the line? or if we could run the line and they'll hook it up? costs for that? find something out! cause the faster we have that, the faster I have a place we can all play w/internet.
Other than that....temporarily....UAW does sound nice, it would be cheap, and big enough. but it seems that if we dont have inet, we dont need a big area, but if we have inet we NEED a big area....so i guess, ummm, ya....thats a prob lol.

you need to contact the local franchise authority find out how many people need to want internet in that one mile area around you before Comcast is obligated by their franchise agreement to run the line free of charge…..once you do that get signatures from enough people and I can get you a certain address in philly to send it to…..you can also just call Comcast’s 800 number and speak to a rep about how much it will cost to run the line…..they will usually over-estimate on the phone but they can get a contractor out to get a much closer estimate….I am not sure if they charge for a contractor visit or not....we have never had one charge for me or the school....

hmm...well since we are the only ones in that one mile area that dont have access to it...I think im stuck on calling ....like i said..it stops a block down the road....you know right behind the water tower in Pigeon? ya....its a block long dirt road they put in to a subdivision....thats probably a block long itself....1/4 acre lots or 1/2 acre lots not too sure....but ya, other than that both sides of US12 and the paved part a block away around us has comcast.....so, that would mean we were the only ones without it damn stupid small hick towns!

It's not really dsl, it's essentially cable shared over WIFI... You remember our plan with the 9 mile antenna? It's sorta like that.

You're actually sharing that speed with everyone on the Rural Network, same as Romain - sometimes he has tons of bandwith othertimes none...

if you are on the cheap one it should be a 1024/1024 burstable circuit......

I checked and yes they do!!!!!! so Im in the middle of convincing my mom (my step dad is all in for it...but my mom is still kinda like...Its $40 after the first 3 months!!!....) But I think I have her leaning twords it ....so what this means...if I get them to get it.....Id have a place for a LAN, and internet...though I doubt 15 of us on it playing source would do very good on pings LOL. but ya, at least it would be inet

Sweet but what happens when u split a Wifi connection wouldn't 15 people on DSL inet kind really lag the system? IDK

it is not Wi-Fi....it is wireless HSI! it is a huge difference....a 1024/1024 circuit is enough for a lot of people......it is the upload you need not the download....and wireless has pings only slightly worse than DSL, cable, or any other hardwire service....
|
|
|
Post by AronMsmith1987 on Apr 17, 2006 22:14:18 GMT -5
k thats fine and dandy and thanks for the class on wireless HSI but the point wasn't in the termanology I used weather it was right or wrong the point was that splitting the connection would substantially cut down on the speed of the internet connection in general. But hey im not an expert I'm just speculating but then agian my internet reciver didn't blow up. JK LOL
|
|
|
Post by euclidean© on Apr 17, 2006 22:35:58 GMT -5
umm...so what is HSI then? cause as far as Im concerned if there's no wires then its wireless...at least the last time I checked thats what it was called.... haha And yes, we know upload is what matters when playing video games....but we were talking about if we had 15+ people on "wireless" how it would affect pings....because I've seen the difference in pings from 512k to 750K to 1000k...and well, it went from 35-45 to 25-35 to 12-20.....so I was just speculating that with wireless, and 15 people, pings would not be very good at all...more like everyone playing on dial-up.
