So I finally brought the Subie back with me to Ann Arbor. Due to the stiffer suspension it may not be the best car for long drives on shitty roads (Pothole.... Ugh! My ass!), but she is indisputably a drivers car. Driving confidence increases about tenfold from the F150. I was able to seriously scoot driving back to school. Dealing with other cars is a much easier affair because 1) I can actually see them and 2) My car actually handles the road. I also noticed throttle response (stoplights/passing) is way better than the wagon as well. A quick tap of the go pedal can have quite pleasing results.
What really surprised me though was fuel consumption. First let me say that I spent something on the order of $200 on gas the last couple months. The F150 had 1/2 a tank leaving Ann Arbor but I still had to put $10 in to get home. Then, Fred can tell you driving to Three Rivers to see "21" on Saturday I had to put another $20 in (something I was trying to avoid, but low gas lights are best to obey). In contrast the WRX had about 3/8 a tank this morning so I was gonna stop in Three Rivers on my way back, but wasn't thinking and drove on through to Kzoo. Kzoo traditionally take me about a 1/4 of a tank, but the deflection in the WRX was probably an eighth or less. After visiting Romain, I continued on to A2 figuring I'd have to stop on the way. Remarkably, I made it all the way here (although the needle was getting a little too low for comfort) so I filled up at the Shell by my apartment spending $3.59 a gallon for premium and the grand total came to $46!!!! Not only do I have a vastly superior car, but I literally cut my fuel consumption in half!
She may be the ugly duckling, but she has it where it counts.
